Marian's Diabetes Program is Nationally Recognized
Marian Medical Center’s Diabetes Program has been helping patients manage diabetes for more than 18 years. Because of the program’s clinical excellence, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has officially recognized it as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.
The program is designed for anyone with Type 1, Type 2 or Gestational Diabetes and is covered by Medicare and most insurance plans. Participants receive one-on-one education from a Registered Dietitian and a Registered Nurse as well as four classroom-style educational sessions. Annual one-on-one sessions are available from then on.
“It is important to keep in mind, diabetes is one disease that you can strongly influence your outcomes, otherwise it will progress and affect you,” said Sheri Etheredge, RD, CDE, diabetes education coordinator. “By taking advantage of the education opportunities Marian’s Diabetes Program offers, you will increase your ability to be the one in control of the disease and live a healthy life.”
The goal of the program is to tailor the education for individuals with diabetes on effective self-management skills and available resources. By managing diabetes through lifestyle changes, maintaining normal body weight and using medications where appropriate, people with diabetes can avoid more serious, long-term health complications.
To enroll in the program, participants must be referred by their physician. For more information, please call 739-3791.
